Danieli, one of Italy’s leading steel plant engineering companies, is making great strides in the global steel industry. Under the leadership of CEO Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, the company is not only supplying large electric arc furnaces worldwide, but is also expanding its sales channels through unique after-sales inspection and maintenance services.
In the last fiscal year, Danieli’s sales increased by more than 10 per cent to EUR 4.1 billion, reflecting the company’s growing influence in the steel industry. Particularly noteworthy is the company’s expertise in electric arc furnaces, which account for more than half of global sales in this category. With orders for 30 furnaces and a busy schedule, Danieli is leading the way in this sector.
Danieli’s flagship product, the large electric arc furnace, is a sustainable alternative to traditional blast furnaces. Recognising the global shift towards decarbonisation, the company is actively engaging with integrated steel producers to switch from blast furnaces to electric arc furnaces. Danieli has already enjoyed success in Western markets, with major orders such as Algoma Steel in Canada, further cementing its reputation as an industry leader.
A key differentiator for Danieli is the “Digimelter” brand of electric AC arc furnaces with the ‘Q-ONE’ power supply system. This system, explains Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, not only reduces voltage fluctuations, but also allows significant energy savings. The adoption of the system by companies such as Tokyo Steel, Shinkansai Steel, Chiyoda Steel and JFE Bars & Shapes demonstrates its growing popularity in Japan.
To consolidate its presence in Japan, Danieli is establishing its first inspection and maintenance site in the Hanshin region of Kansai, a strategic location in the midst of numerous steel producers. This initiative aims to meet the challenge of providing fast and flexible after-sales services, a critical factor in the Japanese market. Operations are scheduled to start in June 2024 and mark a significant milestone in the Italian group’s expansion strategy.
Danieli’s approach to sales and service in the steel industry exemplifies the combination of technological innovation and customer-centric strategies. By offering sustainable alternatives to traditional steelmaking methods and improving after-sales support, Giacomo Mareschi Danieli points out, the group does not just sell products, but builds long-term relationships with its customers. As the company continues to expand its presence, particularly in the Japanese market, its commitment to revolutionising the steel industry and leading the way towards a more sustainable future is unequivocal.
