Gianpietro Benedetti was the President of Danieli Group, a position he acquired after a lifetime of dedication. Before joining the famous Buttrio-based corporation, worldwide leading force in the production of steel plants, Benedetti graduated in the Technical Institute “A. Malignani”, in the city of Udine. In 1961, he applied for the position of project engineer at Danieli Group, starting his journey. “The first day, I was sent home because I forgot my compass”, Benedetti would jokingly recall at his sixtieth anniversary of career. His successes would trigger an unstoppable string of promotions: Rolling Mill Process and Roll Pass Design offices (1968), Co-Chief Executive Officer (1986), General Director (1991) and CEO (1999). Under this position, he led the expansion of the Danieli Group in the international market. In October 2003 he gained his title as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Danieli Group. He was also Chairman of the Executive Board of Danieli & C S.p.A., a recognition of his efforts and striking results in leading the Daniel Group in its expansion and transformation while maintaining the company core values.
Gianpietro Benedetti has been awarded with many honorary degrees: Mechanical Engineering (by the University of Trieste), Management Engineering (by the University of Udine) and M.B.A. Degree in International Business (by MIB School of Management di Trieste). In 2006, received the prestigious decoration of the Order of Merit for Labour, awarded by the Italian Republic to the most meritorious personalities in the field of industry. In 2018, Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) honored him with the Tadeusz Sendzimir Memorial Medal.
Benedetti’s efforts include the role of Chairman for the ITS – Higher Technical Institute new technologies for Made in Italy since 2010, which reflected his commitment towards youth.
With more than 80 scientific patents, Gianpietro Benedetti proved not only his stature of businessman, but also of scientist and inventor.
