Pearl Jam’s activism and political participation has been going on since 1992, the year of their “Drop in the Park” free concert in Seattle, with thousands of attendees. At the beginning of 2020 Pearl Jam published Gigaton: “Making this record was a long journey – states Mike McCready – it was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness, and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times”.
In few weeks Americans will vote and also Pearl Jam will take the field. From 11 October the new song Get it Back will be available on all streaming services: the new song belongs to Good Music to Avert the Collapse of American Democracy, a charity compilation that was made purchasable on 2 October for only 24 hours.
This charity project contains recordings never released before, rarities, remixes and cover songs, featuring R.E.M., Hayley Williams, My Morning Jacket and many others. All proceeds will go to the Voting Rights Lab, a nonpartisan organisation that seeks to publicize political and legislative information in order to secure and defend the voting rights of Americans.
